Genbano presents the rich music legacy of the northern Malay archipelago through the traditional Malay musical instruments, the serunai and gendang. These two instruments have existed for hundred of years, and remain popular in the Malay region. The group is proud to introduce the talented youth musicians who have affinity and skills in playing these traditional instruments. They will be performing songs and rhythms often played in martial arts ceremonies and performances.

About Genbano

The northern region of the Malay archipelago, comprising of the northern Malay states of Kedah and Kelantan as well as southern Thai region of Patani, is rich and steep with tradition, beautifully encapsulated in its traditional and folkloric music and theatre. Genbano strives to showcase the music of this region with instruments such as serunai, talempong, canang and gong.

Gemadah – Traditional Malay Music Festival is a one-day event presented by the Singapore Malay Traditional Musicians Association, in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay as part of Pentas.
