We are dedicated to supporting access and upholding our vision of being an arts centre for everyone. Our premises, including establishments at Esplanade Mall, are wheelchair-friendly and guide/assistance dog friendly.

Ticket concession scheme for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)

All Esplanade Presents programmes that offer concessions have ticket concessions for persons with disabilities (PWDs), including but not limited to those with developmental, intellectual or physical disabilities. This concession for PWDs can also be utilised by one accompanying companion.

Special seating arrangements

We accommodate patrons who need accessible seating requirements—including those with mobility challenges and patrons who are blind or have low vision with guide dogs—wherever possible. Wheelchair accessible seating is also available at the venue. However, due to the production requirements of some performances, these arrangements may not always be available.

We recommend that patrons with accessible seating requirements inform our Customer Experience team of their needs when booking tickets at our Box Office so that arrangements can be made. You may also contact our Customer Experience team at 6828 8377 from 12pm to 6pm daily to make arrangements. Please do come early to allow for time to be seated before the performance begins.

Priority Lane

There is a priority lane at Esplanade Box Office and Visitor Centre located at the Mezzanine level of the centre. Besides offering priority access to those who require it, the wider lane affords persons who require a wheelchair more comfort and convenience.

Singapore’s first dementia-friendly arts centre

We have worked closely with the Agency for Integrated Care to become the first dementia-friendly arts venue in Singapore. We are also the first arts venue to become a Dementia Go-To Point since 1 Dec 2021. Dementia Go-To Points (GTPs) are touch points within the community that provide information and useful resources on dementia, and link those who need help with the relevant dementia-related services. GTPs also serve as "safe return" points where members of the public can bring persons with dementia to, if these individuals appear lost, and are unable to identify themselves or their way home.

FAQs – Concessions for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)

This only applies to Esplanade Presents programmes at the moment. If there is no concession price, this could be because it is a hirer's event. This means that Esplanade is not involved in the creation or production of the programme, but the programme is taking place at our venue.

Other ticketing specials offered by Esplanade include Esplanade&Me member specials that cover different segments of the community. More about memberships here.

No documents are required when buying PWD concession tickets from the SISTIC Counter/ Esplanade Box Office. This also applies to accompanying companions.

However, on the day of the performance, it is best to have any necessary documentation such as relevant eligible cards (DDR ID/ PWD Concession Card/ SSA membership card) with you, in case verification is conducted before entry into the performance venue.

Yes, this can be arranged, and is subject to the availability of seats. Do contact our Customer Experience team as soon as you can so that we can assist with the necessary preparations for your ticket purchase and visit.

Each person with disability is entitled to purchase up to two tickets under the PWDs concession scheme. The additional ticket is meant for the accompanying companion who could be their caregiver.

Esplanade’s Customer Experience team will be able to serve you best at our venue if we know of your wheelchair access requirements before your visit to Esplanade. By visiting our Box Office or calling our Box Office hotline (6828 8377, from 12pm – 6pm daily), we will be able to select the best available seats for you and your companion, and make the necessary preparations for your visit.

Getting here and moving around

There are two pick-up and drop-off points. If you are taking public transport, follow our wayfinding videos that show wheelchair accessible routes outdoors and underground.

Relaxed Environment

A Relaxed Environment (RE) performance is perfect for anyone who benefits from being able to make a noise, leave and return to their seat or access the toilets during the performance. No modifications are made to the performance.

Relaxed Performances

We present relaxed performances for those who would benefit from such environments. Besides our PLAYtime! series of theatre productions for children, Esplanade is looking into expanding the range of relaxed performances so that the arts is accessible for as many people as possible. The following FAQs tell you more about such shows.

Assistive Listening

A relaxed performance provides a welcoming and relaxed environment for those who are on the autism spectrum or have sensory sensitivities. Special modifications are incorporated into the performance to make it relaxed.

All individuals are welcome regardless of their sensory needs. A relaxed performance is meant to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. However, some changes may have been made to the production and the atmosphere, and the experience might differ from a regular-setting show.

Currently, the PLAYtime! series has dedicated relaxed performances that have been modified for children with sensory sensitivities. While modifications have been made to the PLAYtime! relaxed performances, our aim is to always ensure that we maintain the integrity of the show without compromising the story and production value.

What makes a relaxed performance relaxed?

Brighter lights

  • No complete blackouts

  • House lights are slightly brighter at all times

Sounds levels adjusted

  • Sounds are kept at a consistent level

  • No surprising and loud sounds

Relaxed environment

  • Audience members can enter and exit the theatre space freely

Smaller audience capacity

  • To allow for more space and movement

Calm space

  • Space outside the theatre to help your child/ward calm down
  • Fidget toys available for use

Pre-event guide

  • A pre-event guide is a written and visual story that helps prepare children for a new environment. It includes information such as what to expect during the visit to Esplanade, information about the production (pictures of characters, costumes, sets, sound clips of songs), as well as what to expect during the performance.
  • Pre-event guide can be downloaded from the event page a week before the performance.

As these are relaxed performances, your child/ward is free to move or talk during the show within the designated seating space.

A regular-setting PLAYtime! performance is created specially for children between the age of 2 and 6 but we welcome children of any age into a PLAYtime! relaxed performance.

Yes, all ticket holders are allowed to move in and out of the theatre freely. If you and your child/ward want to take a break from being inside the theatre space during a PLAYtime! relaxed performance, you can go to the calming space located at the Theatre Studio Foyer. There is also a screen at the foyer for you to watch the performance while it is happening inside.

Yes, you can bring in and use headphones and fidgets as needed. During all PLAYtime! performances, the audience will also be seated on the floor. Your child/ward may bring along their favourite cushion to make the experience a more comfortable one.

Before you and an individual with autism decide to attend a ticketed performance, you may want to check the advisory on the event detail page or write in to corporate@esplanade.com for more information about the performance. For now, most performances are not designed as relaxed performances and may not be suitable for individuals with autism. This could be because of lighting and sound effects or restricted entry and exit except during designated intermissions.

If you are attending a performance and require assistance, please approach our ushers for help. We look forward to having you with us at Esplanade soon! Thank you.
