Huayi Dialogues returns for its second edition to gaze inward into the very core of theatre: its People and its Art.
In an era of fragmentation, why does theatre remain irreplaceable? It is because of the playwrights who gaze deep into humanity, the actors who sculpt time with their bodies, and the directors who construct realms of dreams.
Co-curated with Singapore theatre practitioner Liu Xiaoyi, this year’s line-up gathers theatre luminaries from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei. Featuring the legendary career of King Shih-Chieh; the literary universe of He Jiping; Jiang Shan’s return to the stage; Nick Yu’s cosmopolitan vision; and a fierce clash of aesthetics among directors from three cities.
Through five illuminating sessions, we will dissect the “bones” and “soul” of Chinese theatre through the lenses of Text, Acting, and Directing. These are not just lectures by masters, but a spiritual sanctuary for every soul who loves art to rest, reflect, and find new beginnings.
