Esplanade Presents | Super Japan – Japanese Festival of Arts
Silent Anime meets Piano
Daigo Tamada (ADAM at)
Iori Kimura (PRIMITIVE ART ORCHESTRA)
Ryo Kishimoto (fox capture plan)
Decades before Howl’s Moving Castle, Astro Boy, and Doraemon delighted audiences around the world, Japan had already been creating animation. This evening’s performances feature selected works from pioneering Japanese animators Noburo Ofuji, Yasuji Murata, and Kenzo Masaoka. Daigo Tamada, Iori Kimura, and Ryo Kishimoto perform live solo piano sets in accompaniment of each screening, lending the works a refreshing new spin.
Special thanks to The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo National Film Center collection for providing these precious anime films.
