From pop to jazz, rock to dangdut¸ Hashim Said, or better known as S. Atan, is one of the most versatile and sought-after composers of Malay music. After all, he is the man behind popular songs such as Sudirman Ashad’s Bila Wajahmu Kubayangkan, Black Dog Bone’s Dulu dan Sekarang, Tan Sri S. M. Salim’s Pandang-Pandang Jeling-Jeling, and more.

S. Atan began his career in music at 17 years old performing as part of an evening band at a hotel in Johor Bahru. By the time he was 22, he had already become the conductor of Singapore Broadcasting Corporation’s Kalungan Nada Orchestra, and had joined EMI as a composer, where he produced a string of hits.

Since 1972, he has penned more than 1,000 songs for renowned artists including Carefree, Anita Sarawak, D.J. Dave, Tan Sri S. M. Salim, Jamal Abdillah, and the late Sharifah Aini and Sudirman. He also did a two-year stint in Taiwan, and wrote Chinese songs for the market there.

Join artists and personalities from Malaysia and Singapore as they revisit some of the highlights of his illustrious career. Come celebrate the man responsible for bringing so many well-loved hits to the region. Don’t miss out on his special performance!
