Sunny Trio and Natt Buntita
Sunny Trio and Natt Bunitita are the top jazz artists of Silpakorn University. The trio comprises Rattana “Sunny” Wongsansern, one of the most virtuosic pianists and a fine composer; Chanutr “Hong” Techatana-nan, one of the most innovative and exciting jazz drummers to emerge from Thailand’s jazz scene; and Siriwat “Tae” Pliansanthia, arguably the country’s most sought-after and top jazz bassists.
Jazz pianist/composer maestro Sunny Rattana graduated in classical piano performance with first class honours from Chulalongkorn University. The musician, who had taught himself, trained under Nu Vudthivichai. He has won awards at the Thailand Jazz Competition—first, second and third prizes, as well as the H.M. The King’s Trophy for the Jazz Band and Outstanding Musician Award—and has also won the Outstanding Musician Award at the Greeley Jazz Festival, USA.
Natt Buntita, often dubbed as Thailand’s “First Lady of Jazz”, is best known for her incomparable bop-flavoured scatting. She was awarded Best Jazz Vocalist at the Thailand Jazz Competition by Silpakorn University, a competition under the patronage of His Majesty King Bhumipol Adulyadej.
This special jazz quartet plays Sunny’s new arrangements of traditional Thai music as well as original compositions well spiced with modern jazz harmony and masterful improvisation. Be mesmerised by the astonishing chemistry between this charismatic group as they perform their eclectic selection.Facebook
