Esplanade Presents | Mosaic
With a strong, elegant voice that delivers soul-searching lyrics, singer-songwriter Ethel Yap's music traverses vast soundscapes from indie folk to alternative rock, with subtle electronic influences carried on earthy acoustic arrangements. Her debut eponymous EP, produced by James Lye, explores themes of identity, home, personhood and roots, plunging to the depths of self-discovery, and lingering on intimate meditations of time and loss, birth and war.
Ethel is influenced by The Swell Season, Glen Hansard, Lisa Hannigan, Ray LaMontagne, Fleet Foxes and Charlie Lim. She was a mentee in the Noise Music Mentorship (2015) under Randolf Arriola's guidance, and has performed at the Esplanade Concourse, Artistry cafe, Barbershop by Timbre, Lepark, Starker Music, Baybeats (2016) and Twenty-Something Festival (2016). As a theatre actress, Ethel has also worked with companies W!LD RICE, Pangdemonium, The Theatre Practice, The Necessary Stage and Singapore Repertory Theatre, among others.Website
