Master percussionist, versatile musician and industry veteran Mohamed Noor has been drumming up Singapore’s music scene for the last 45 years. At 50 years of age, the sought-after musician is adept at over 30 different percussive instruments, and has racked up years of experience performing with international names from David Bowie to Gypsy Kings, Randy Crawford to Toots Thielemans, as well as with local and regional artists including Jeremy Monteiro, Jacky Cheung, Ramli Sarip and Mohamed Raffee.

This year, commemorating Esplanade’s 15th anniversary, Noor celebrates his 15-year journey with the arts centre. Join the man of the hour as he performs with his three bands: Tamil pop outfit Vasantham Boys, featuring his brothers Mohamed Rafee and Bashir, with Daniel Sitranen; world music band Tribal Tide, comprising Reggie Perera and Joe Jayaveeran; and world fusion group Men in Groove, with Casey Subramaniam, Leonardo Mendoza and Euntaek Kim. Joining them is his mentor and international percussionist Steve Thornton.

Noor will also give sneak previews of several new fusion jazz and carnatic pieces, re-arranged and composed for this concert.

About Mohamed Noor
Growing up in a family of musicians paved the way early for Mohamed Noor. At five years old, he was already performing at the Victoria Theatre, playing percussions. Noor grew up learning to play a variety of instruments such as the tabla, drums, mandolin, keyboard, clarinet, Indian carnatic flute, saxophone, among others.

He has performed at music festivals all over the world, including the ASEAN Jazz Festival in Malaysia, Big Bang Percussion Festival in London, International Performing Arts Festival in Tokyo, and Esplanade’s Mosaic Music Festival.

Noor also had the opportunity to work with international names such as Gypsy Kings, AR Rahman, David Bowie, Eric Marienthal, Randy Crawford, and more, as well as musicians from the region, including Rani Singam, Stephanie Sun, Wang Lee Hom, Ramli Sarip and Jeremy Monteiro.

He is a member of three bands, Vasantham Boys, Tribal Tide and Men In Groove, all of whom perform at Esplanade often.
