"The Stuttgart Ballet doesn’t follow trends, it sets them."
Tanz
"This production reveals Cranko’s deft and audacious choreography and his mastery of storytelling through physical gesture and movement. As a choreographer of narrative ballet, he remains unmatched… Cranko’s attention to detail is exquisite and his use of comedy to highlight tragedy is breathtaking. If you think you’ve seen Romeo And Juliet, think again. This is a revelation."
Daily Express
"This Romeo and Juliet is a gripping and impressive piece of stagecraft [...]"
The Daily Telegraph
"John Cranko was the Zeffirelli of ballet: a detailed, complex, psychologically sensitive narrator who converted every conceivable emotion into grandiose movement."

Witness the story of the world’s most famous star-crossed lovers as it unfolds in choreographic legend John Cranko’s iconic treatment of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

This October, the Stuttgart Ballet returns to Esplanade with their definitive classical dance version of the play, bringing with them technical brilliance, lavish sets and costumes designed by Jürgen Rose.

Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s most heart-rending score accompanied by Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra, this version of Romeo and Juliet premiered in 1962 with a triumphant run, introducing the world not only to Cranko’s gift for storytelling, but also signature breathtaking “Stuttgart lifts” and one of the most famous Balcony pas de deuxs in the ballet canon for which the company is celebrated. Today, it is regarded as a timeless masterpiece of unsurpassed beauty, performed by ballet companies around the world.
