Discover the joy of movement and fall in love with dance at da:ns festival’s Footwork workshops. A great way for parents and kids aged 7–10 years old to bond and have lots of fun and laughter!

There’s no better way to fall in love with dance than to try dancing yourself. Footwork gives you the opportunity to learn popular dances from the experts and pick up some moves in the months leading up to the da:ns festival, held from 20 – 29 Oct 2017. Disco

Authentic Jazz

Learn how to do the “boogie back”, the “fall off the log”, and many other steps of this dance from the 1930s. Groove to the sounds of traditional jazz and big band. The workshop will have a basic partner choreography between parent and child!

Jazz Inc is a collective of dancers led and founded by Sinclair Ang. While specialising in authentic street dances from the 1920s–40s, like the charleston, and the lindy hop, the collective also seeks to promote the more contemporary urban street dances, with the focus on tracing the roots and development of street dance and to find their common ground and influences; as well as to break the barriers between the different subgenres of the dance and their respective music. They also aim to be inclusive rather than divisive, and to celebrate vernacular dance in all its forms and its organic nature that ties it closely to the everyday struggles, pains, joys, and victories.

About CJSOPA

Making waves both locally and internationally, Celine Jessandra School of Music & Dance was founded in 2006. The school is well known for pioneering the korean vocal and dance “k-pop hallyu” wave in Singapore.

Staying at the forefront of the arts, Celine Jessandra leads and inspires individuals to embark upon their first foray into the arts, as well as provide stage and performance opportunities to those who show potential.

Many of the young talents who attend the school were handpicked or discovered by Celine, who took them under her tutelage, and are part of the CJ Crew.

The CJ Crew has been featured across numerous media publications and programmes, even showcased in countries such as Korea and Germany. They have performed for and alongside regional and local artists such as Korea’s B2ST, BtoB, Jolin Tsai and Derrick Hoh.

They have headlined campaigns from TV commercials to print adverts, as well as entertained their audience across local and international shores.

They have also been in Esplanade’s annual da:ns festival, where they have been involved in both teaching and performing capacities.

With an unrivalled vocal and dance curriculum for students, Celine Jessandra immerses them in the performing arts, nurturing creativity and passion. Students enjoy the autonomy of learning .

With its aim to empower their students and provide them with the most excellent learning platforms, Celine Jessandra seeks to stay relevant, differentiated and influential in the ever changing climate of the arts.

Learn the 1-2-3s of b-boying or breaking, also known as breakdancing, and have fun in this first ever parent-kid b-boy class. Pick up some basic top rock moves, floorwork and maybe even how to do the simple freeze, all taught in a safe environment with easy to follow instructions. This class is open to all b-boys and b-girls out there. Parents, be cool or get schooled!

Originating from Punjab, this lively, high-energy folk dance is enjoyed the world over! It’s a free-form dance movement that lets you move with passion and spirit, along to the familiar beat of the dhoi (drum). As a free form dance movement, it demands participants to move with passion with dance moves involving raising the arms above the shoulders. Join us and move to the bhangra beat!

About SherePunjab Bhangra

Since its establishment in 2002, SherePunjab Bhangra has revolutionised the Singapore bhangra scene with its unique style and diversity, combining modern and traditional elements in its performances.

Hargobind Singh: Background – Gobind has been dancing bhangra for the last 15 years. He is an enthusiast hoping to bring up the Singapore bhangra scene.

Team Affiliations – Founder of SherePunjab Bhangra (SPB) in 2002. Founder and President of Edinburgh Bhangra Crew (EBC) in 2008. Dancer on Da Real Punjabiz (DRP) in 2009/10. Founder and Captain of Sadi Wakhri Ah Taur (S.W.A.T.) Singapore from September 2015 till March 2017.

Competition History – Participated in Boston Bhangra, Dhol Di Awaz, Vancouver International Bhangra Competition, and took third place at Bruin Bhangra 2010. More recently, he won awards at Bhangra Dance Off 2015, Bhangra Down Under 2016, and Harbour City Bhangra 2017 (third).

Rock ‘n’ Roll

Evolved from Lindy Hop, Rock ‘n’ roll is a fast paced dance that originated in the 1920s–1930s. It is a very sporty form of dance that is extremely popular, and leaves room for personal expression and interpretation through style, rhythm and movement. About Danz People

Danz People is one of Singapore’s premier dance studios whose curriculum includes hip hop, poppin’, jazz, street jazz, lyrical jazz, contemporary, adult ballet, and many more, catering to adults and children, with courses for absolute beginners as well. The studio also collaborates with the National Arts Council in providing arts education programme to schools and the public.

Danz People is the home of three big dance groups. Their aim is not only to represent the studio but to celebrate dance as a team. This one big family is composed of United Groovers for adults, Junior Groovers for teens and Mini Groovers for kids. They don’t just dance for fun, they dance to represent one big family united to exemplify harmonious excellence.
