MUSSORGSKY Khovantchina: Introduction “Dawn on the Moscow River”
SHOSTAKOVICH Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 77
TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 1 in G minor, Op. 13 “Winter Daydreams”

Acclaimed Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos returns to Singapore with the grotesque grandeur of Shostakovich’s relentless Violin Concerto No.1. Lan Shui opens the concert with the gorgeous dawn song that opens Mussorgsky’s opera Khovantchina, and concludes with Tchaikovsky’s First Symphony, an atmospheric collage of “Winter Daydreams” that foreshadow his talent for balletic drama and endless capacity for heartfelt melody.
