Asia’s foremost classical orchestra returns to Singapore.

Under the baton of Music Director Jaap van Zweden, one of today’s most sought-after conductors, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra makes their debut at the Esplanade Concert Hall together with International Paganini Competition winner Ning Feng.

Last performing in Singapore 17 years ago, the orchestra makes a stop here as part of a five-city international tour, and presents a programme that showcases Hong Kong’s creativity and classical music culture, including the Singapore premiere of a new work from Hong Kong and masterpieces by Mozart and Mahler.

Fung Lam – Quintessence (Singapore premiere, HK Phil commission)
Mozart – Violin Concerto No. 4
Mahler – Symphony No. 1

Jaap van Zweden is one of today’s most distinguished conductors, and has been appointed Music Director of the New York Philharmonic from the 2018/19 season. He became Music Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic in 2012 and has recently announced that he will continue in this role until at least summer 2022. He is also the current Music Director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. A regular guest conductor with leading orchestras around the world, he has recently made his debuts with both the Berlin and Vienna philharmonics.

Ning Feng performs regularly in his native country of China with major international and local orchestras, in recital and with the Dragon Quartet which he founded in 2012. Now based in Berlin and enjoying a global career, Ning Feng has developed a reputation internationally as an artist of great lyricism and emotional transparency, displaying tremendous bravura and awe-inspiring technical accomplishment.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Singapore tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore.
