“[Melvin] Tan, for me, was the star of the evening; here was a naturally gifted tenor with a gloriously rich and musical voice that instantly captivated and enthralled.” - Oxford Times (Nicole Lisle)
“Lovely voice… all wonderfully ambitious and thoroughly enjoyable” - Simon Keenlyside

Transcendent Love presents some of Benjamin Britten’s finest works for the tenor voice including three of his five Canticles. The first is a mini-cantata for solo tenor, the second a mini-opera with three roles for two singers (a tenor and a countertenor) and the fifth for tenor and harp.
This along with Vaughan-Williams’ On Wenlock Edge for tenor, string quartet and piano portrays a sublime selection of 20th century vocal chamber works that deal with sacred and secular love, and are also all Singapore premieres.
Singaporean tenor Melvin Tan is no stranger to Singapore audiences, having sung roles in Singapore Lyric Opera’s last 2 productions: Turandot and Les Contes d’Hoffman. Having trained at the Royal Academy of Music and now professionally based in London, he has sung with various British opera companies including Opera South, Opera Holland Park and Grange Park Opera.

He teams up with outstanding Singaporean pianist and chamber musician Shane Thio and special guests, harpist Fontane Liang and countertenor Chia Wee-Kiat, to bring you a fascinating and transcendent evening of chamber music.
