Bringing his intensely exciting style to the Singapore stage is choreographer, composer and dancer Hofesh Shechter, UK's hottest name in the contemporary dance scene. His acclaimed double bill of Uprising and In your rooms has blown audiences and critics away since it premiered in 2007. Shechter, an alumnus of the renowned Batsheva Dance Company, keeps you riveted with the raw energy and magnetism in his choreography. Animalistic moves, hip hop vibes and powerful rhythms underscore his highly corporeal forms, erupting with rebellious freedom amidst controlled chaos. All superbly delivered by a corps of irrepressible dancers against a mash-up of rock, electro and classical sounds.
Uprising, a highly charged work set to a throbbing percussive score, bombards you with a guttural force as an all-male ensemble spar and bond in combative interplay. In your rooms, which won the 2008 Critics' Circle National Dance Award for Best Choreography (Modern) in the UK, brims with gritty physicality and is at times provocative, political and deeply personal. Tender moments unfold to hauntingly beautiful music and envelop you with ferocious passion. Performed by a live band on stage, the score is composed by Shechter in collaboration with Nell Catchpole of The Gogmagogs.
