SYNOPSIS
The Scale of Justice is a new installation by Burmese artist Htein Lin, based on the concept of a prison cell. The work continues from his paintings and performance art which explore similar themes dealing with the constraints of detention. Viewers are invited to experience the installation, which in part evokes the loose whitewashed brick walls of Burma's jails that gives the Burmese saying "htaun-hna-kan lan-shauq" (or "treading a fine line"). The Scale of Justice draws from Htein Lin's own experience as a practitioner of the law - as well as one who has had it practised on him: he had previously been sentenced to seven years in prison.
