SYNOPSIS
ENGLISH | 中文
Like the cangue, the heavy wooden collar worn by criminals and condemned people in China, the marriage of Cao Qiqiao hangs around her neck, punishing her for a choice she made decades ago... a choice she has never ceased to bitterly regret.
The once-naïve sesame oil-seller is now a hard, brittle, grasping woman who hates the paralysed and blind man she married for his money, who hankers after her philandering brother-in-law, tussles for the family wealth, and inflicts cruelties on her grown children.

Life for Qiqiao is a torment, and she will make it so for all those around her.
