SYNOPSIS
"OD is a mixture of the faintest lyrical nuance and sheer power. (They) can give new birth to classics and approach new works with precision and delight. A great joy to make music with."

"To sing together with OD is to be lifted off the ground… you are borne up by every individual singer – and you fly!"
- Lena Willemark, Singer / Folk Musician

Said to be "an orchestra of voices", Orphei Drängar constantly pushes the envelope of what a male-voice choir can and should do. Currently led by Cecilia Rydinger Alin, OD previously came under the direction of greats like Robert Sund, Eric Ericson and Hugo Alfvén. Since its founding in 1853, OD has mastered the various genres of choral music and now jazz and contemporary reside comfortably within their repertoire alongside folksong and the classics. Imbued with rich tradition, OD is the pride of Sweden's choral scene and their unique sound - the result of over a century of hard work - remains unparalleled.
OD's performances have taken them from stone quarries and paper mills to the Royal Albert Hall, Lincoln Centre and now the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore. The evening's programme will include works by Tormis (Helletused), Hillborg (A Cradle Song), Sandström (The Singing Apes of Khao Yai), Chilcott (Newton's Amazing Grace), Poulenc (Quatre Petite Prières de Saint François d'Assise) and Purcell (Dido's Lament).
