SYNOPSIS
From the Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer Christopher Rouse comes the fetching and expressive Flute Concerto, which “opens and closes with flowing, soulful, seemingly improvised lines of Irish folk song…” Composed during a two-year stay in Dresden, the sombre music in Rachmaninov’s Isle of the Dead was inspired by an atmospheric painting of a small boat approaching an island on a quiet sea, ferrying a white-clad passenger and a coffin.
