SYNOPSIS
ENGLISH | 中文
After her mother’s death, the sickly Lin Daiyu grows up in the care of her grandmother. Living in the Jia clan’s residence, Lin Daiyu and her like-minded cousin Jia Baoyu become close confidantes, bonded by a common love for music and poetry.
One day, Baoyu is punished severely by his father for associating with opera performers. Daiyu tries to visit him, but is accidentally turned away at the door. Deeply saddened, she recites poems amidst the falling snow. Baoyu, upon hearing her, confesses his feelings for her and their relationship blossoms.
Their secret love for each other does not escape the eyes of Baoyu’s mother. But for the benefit of the Jia clan, she deceives Baoyu and arranges a marriage between him and another cousin who comes from a wealthy family. Baoyu, believing that he will be marrying Daiyu, realises the truth on his wedding night and storms out of the room in search of Daiyu. Will the two lovers be reunited?
