Talented young local cellist Loke Hoe Kit returns to present a recital showcasing an eclectic selection of rare showpieces and popular cello favourites.
Hoe Kit made his concerto debut in 2004 at the Gifted Young Musicians’ Concert with the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra, and subsequently studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York. His principal teachers include the distinguished Tchaikovsky Competition Gold Medalist, Nathaniel Rosen, and Paul Tobias, both of whom were protégés of the legendary cellist Gregor Piatigorsky.
In 2005, Hoe Kit emerged as the sole cello finalist at the 4th Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition in Dallas, USA. His performance of Bloch’s Schelomo at the finals led competition adjudicator Emanuel Borok (concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony) to remark “You are a wonderful cellist… I expect great things from you”.
The recital will feature violinist See Ian Ike as guest performer.
