An international line-up of ballet stars are set to take your breath away with their sublime grace and technical brilliance. This season's Ballet Gala features some of the best principal dancers and soloists from leading ballet companies in the world. From the American Ballet Theater comes the radiant Julie Kent, as well as Daniil Simkin and Cory Stearns. Kent, whose illustrious career has earned her innumerable accolades, is widely lauded for the sensitivity and strength she brings to her portrayals. With her elegant poise, regal beauty and exquisite lines, she embodies the ideals of a classical ballerina. Simkin, who is often compared to Baryshnikov, has not only wowed audiences with his phenomenal technique, agility and infectious charm but has also amassed a huge following online.
The stellar cast also includes Bridgett Zehr and Zdenek Konvalina from National Ballet of Canada, Yumiko Takeshima and Raphaël Coumes-Marquet from Dresden SemperOper Ballett, Elisa Carrillo Cabrera and Mikhail Kaniskin from Staatsballett Berlin.
Mastery, poise and charisma are on display in this programme comprising an array of classical and neo-classical works in solos and duets. Kent and Stearns enthrall with their pas de deux from Kudelka's Cruel World, capturing the passion and the pain of a relationship, while Simkin's solos of Le Bourgeois and Fallen Angel are set to captivate. Takeshima and Coumes-Marquet perform with eloquent fluidity in David Dawson's On the Nature of Daylight, a dance of "continuous subdued rapture". Wonderfully spellbinding are Zehr and Konvalina in two of Balanchine’s choreographies, Coppelia and "Diamonds" from Jewels, as well as Cabrera and Kaniskin in their pas de deux from La Sylphide and Bigonzetti's Caravaggio. These and more scintillating dance awaits at the Ballet Gala!
