SYNOPSIS
"Gostan is rich fodder for dance practitioners and academics as well as the curious dance audience… And it is the fine qualities of story-telling that draws in the audience to ride pleasantly with D'Cruz as she unfolds engaging nuggets of personal tales alongside the art of making dance."

"Encountering D'Cruz for the first time, I was mesmerised by her Gostan Forward ...it was like listening to an old friend telling you something new, yet familiar."

Gostan Forward is an invitation to step into the mind and body of Marion D'Cruz and an excavation of her memory of contemporary dance.
This solo performance lecture traces Marion's growth as a student, dancer, choreographer and educator, revealing her choices, strategies and influences over the span of her 35-year dance career, including the influences of her late husband and collaborator, acclaimed theatre director Krishen Jit. Marion will share with the audience heart-warming, bittersweet, inspiring and humorous anecdotes and perform excerpts of her favourite and most significant dances, including Terinai, Swan Song, Urn Piece, Bunga Manggar Bunga Raya, and more.
Marion graduated with a BA in Performing Arts and an MA in Dance from Universiti Sains Malaysia and has studied classical, modern and contemporary dance in Malaysia, Indonesia, London and New York. Marion now teaches, produces and choreographs – concentrating more on working with young people in multi-arts work. In the 2006 Boh Cameronian Arts Awards, Marion was awarded the Cross-Cultural Champion of the Arts Award.
