SYNOPSIS
Enjoy an afternoon of light western classical and pop music with a unique sound and Asian flavour!
No, it is not a pops orchestra but the Hainan Hwee Kuan Harmonica Orchestra that will deliver a jaunty repertoire of favourites such as In A Persian Market, The Comedians’ Gallop and Fiddler on the Roof!
International harmonica champions (2nd Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival and Competition 1998, International (Hang Zhou) Harmonica Competition 2005), the orchestra has always embraced an eclectic repertoire, uniquely re-interpreting well-known pieces across genres such as Asian pop, western classical and folk for the harmonica.
This concert will be led by the orchestra’s founder and long-time conductor Tay Boon Seng. Mr. Tay is also the Vice President and principal conductor of Singapore Harmonica Aficionados Society, and a harmonica teacher in many primary schools and community centres. In 2006, the orchestra was invited to participate in the biennial Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival in Taiwan and in November 2008 it travelled to Shanghai to collaborate with Shanghainese harmonica groups.
