SYNOPSIS
In November 2010, five musicians met and talked about music, jazz (and their collective love of the art form), the great songs of the 40’s and 50’s, and the evolution of that music today. Quickly a vision emerged: to recreate the classic gems from the American Songbook, interpreted with modern contemporary jazz aesthetic.
NOIR is the collective statement these five have chosen to make and their strength lies in a commitment to their presentation of a group sound and identity. This approach, coupled with their obvious dedication to virtuosic execution, makes for powerful live performances and albums, a detail not lost on the enthusiastic fans who have filled the sold-out concert venues of the Esplanade and Blujaz.
For these performances, NOIR musicians Melissa Tham (vocals), Joshua Wan (piano) and Soh Wen Ming (drums) will be joined by guest bassist Christy Smith.
