SYNOPSIS
Join Anne Soffie von Otter and her “Merry Swedish Gentlemen” as they ring in the festive season with a rousing concert of traditional yuletide favourites from the European continent.

Sought-after mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie Von Otter is considered one of the finest singers of her generation with a diverse repertoire spanning music by Handel, Debussy, to Benny Andersson and Elvis Costello. She has worked with the pre-eminent conductors of today, triumphed at the world’s major opera houses and is a regular guest at leading festivals.

Her recording project for Deutsche Grammophon some years ago, Home for Christmas, was the starting point of this concert programme which has been toured throughout Europe and North America in earlier seasons.

Performing with Anne Sofie von Otter is a seven piece ensemble playing a wide range of music instruments including the *Nyckelharpa. Together, they will deliver a dynamic performance of toe-tapping, inspiring and traditional Christmas melodies from Santa Lucia, Silent Night to Koppangen and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

* The nyckelharpa is a traditional Swedish instrument that has been played for more than 600 years. The modern chromatic nyckelharpa has 16 strings: 3 melody strings, one drone string, and 12 sympathetic resonance strings. It has about 37 wooden keys arranged to slide under the strings. The player uses a short bow with the right hand, and pushes on the keys with the left.
