FYI+
Workshops for Teachers

Introducing Feed Your Imagination PLUS (FYI+) – a new and exciting initiative that brings teachers, artists and creative professionals together to explore how the performing arts can be a beneficial teaching tool in the classroom.

Conceived around the belief that theatre can stimulate creativity and develop confidence in self expression among students, FYI+ aims to introduce different aspects of the performing arts to teachers through performances, workshops and discussions. Through these activities, teachers will pick up useful techniques which they can use in their lessons to enhance pedagogy. It is our hope that as more teachers are exposed to the performing arts, they can impart its benefits to their students.

For this year, three workshops within FYI+ has been introduced to enable every teacher to play an instrumental role in developing the creative process of students through the arts.

Come join us in these inspiring hands-on workshops, learn new skills, meet with other teachers and find out more about how you can add value to your school curriculum and /or lessons!

Please note the following:

• FYI+ is only applicable to school teachers.

Workshop 2

Forum Theatre Survival Kit for Teachers by Alvin Tan (The Necessary Stage)

Forum theatre was developed in the early 1970's by Brazilian director Augusto Boal. Boal believed that theatre could serve as a forum for teaching people the strategies they needed to change their world. Since then, it has been a widely accepted and popular means of engaging youths and addressing relevant social issues in a controlled environment.

Forum theatre scenarios are designed to stimulate audience participation through discussion, interactive role-playing and shared experiences.

In this workshop, teachers will learn the basics of forum theatre and understand how devices and skills such as the following can be implemented in the classroom:
  • The aspects of Forum Theatre
  • Hot-seating
  • SPICE (Spiritual, Physical, Intellect, Cultural, Emotional engagement)
Participants will also get to forum a piece of pre-prepared work, as well as create their own issue-based piece to work on during the workshop.

This will be an insightful and more importantly, beneficial course for all to attend.
