Feed Your Imagination (F.Y.I) offers both primary and secondary school students a series of high quality productions by local arts groups such as ACT 3 Theatrics,
The Finger Players, Drama Box, The Necessary Stage and many more.
The aim of F.Y.I is to make the arts an integral part of the lives of students by giving them an enjoyable arts experience.
Each F.Y.I performance includes a 45min guided tour around Esplanade, an activity kit for each student to enable learning to continue even after the performance has ended and a resource kit for teachers to use before and after visiting Esplanade.
F.Y.I is held as part of the National Arts Council Arts Education Programme (NAC-AEP) that aims to develop initiatives that advocate the value and importance of arts education. It connects the arts community with the education sector and supports the professional development of arts educators and arts education providers.

My Friend, A Japanese Soldier

| This performance is based on true stories collected from the National Archives of Singapore. The story is set in Singapore during World War 2 and revolves around an uneasy and unlikely friendship between a Japanese soldier and a local boy. The homesick Japanese solider takes the local boy under his wing as he reminds him of his younger brother back home. However, their friendship invites stares and anger from both the local population and the soldier's officers. This performance is a powerful, educational drama about survival and courage in times of war.
My Friend, A Japanese Soldier will help students to acquire knowledge of how things were when Singapore was under Japanese rule through drama and puppetry.

| This performance will take students on a musical journey starting from Singapore to various parts of the Malay-Archipelago. Students will be immersed in the musical culture of South East Asia through various styles of gamelan music. This includes Javanese, Balinese and Sudanese styles used in the palace, during processions, celebrations and festivals as well as dance and wayang kulit performances.
Popular tunes will be used as a platform to show what the instruments are and how they sound. Additionally, audience participation is woven into the performance to help students to learn about this ethnic art form.

It is a happy day in Nenek’s home. Nenek is anticipating the arrival of her friends from all over Singapore. To prepare for the arrival of her guests, Nenek has invited a dikir barat group to perform in her house. She has also planned a series of other exciting activities that she would like to showcase to her non-Malay guests.
Together with the dikir barat group, Nenek will take her guests on a journey to discover more about the Malay culture. Students will learn to:
- Sing and perform rhythmic hand gestures with the dikir barat troupe.
- Pick up Malay phrases as they listen to Nenek’s stories.
- Play a classic children’s game “Injit-injit Semut”.
- Use coconuts in different ways.
Rumah Nenekku uses drama and music to explain aspects of Malay culture such as the language, art forms and cuisine. This performance will also help students to develop an appreciation for Malay culture
