This performance is adapted from Vishnu Sharma's Pancatantra Tales; a collection of witty, inspiring and thought provoking stories filled with animals that possess human traits and characteristics. Some of the animals featured in this performance include; short-sighted and sensitive elephants, cute and courageous mice, a bluebird who loves to samba, a crow who wants other animals as friends, a suspicious meditating mole, and a rapping tortoise who thinks he is a superstar. The Pancatantra is an ancient collection of Indian fables. These fables have been told and re-told throughout Asia and the Middle East for centuries. Many of them are moral lessons on conduct and behavior – as are the tales portrayed in this performance. This performance is a mixture of drama, dance and music. Much of the choreography in this performance has been devised by the students of the Pancatantra Ensemble Theatre of the Temple of Fine Arts in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Students will learn about improvisational choreography and dramatic creation as they interact with the young Malaysian performers and learn more about their creative process. Tales From The Pancatantra teaches students how to put values into practice. The performance also exposes students to ethnic art forms as it uses both traditional and contemporary dance choreography.
