Whilst audiences are familiar with the large-scale classical ballets such as Swan Lake, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, contemporary ballet is usually less commonly understood or appreciated. What makes contemporary ballet different from classical ballet? Singapore Dance Theatre clears up the mystery with this FYI production that introduces you to the basics of contemporary dance. Featuring the lyrical pas de deux Distant Cries by Edward Liang, Introduction to Contemporary Dance is your passport into the beautiful, exciting world of contemporary ballet. An introduction to the basic elements of contemporary dance – running, jumping, and rolling will first be explored. The audience will then learn what makes contemporary ballet different from classical ballet. After the performance, selected audience members will get to experience lifting or being lifted as a dance partner. These concepts will be demonstrated in 2 dance pieces, a pas de deux and another short ballet with 8 dancers. Tickets: $20 |
